Lower Back Pain Relief in Holt, Michigan
Low back pain worked up properly and treated at our Holt office on E Willoughby Road, by Dr. Jessica Coleman and Dr. Moriah Severance.
Where Your Low Back Pain Is Coming From
Nearly every low back complaint that walks into our Holt office has a mechanical story behind it: a shift spent sitting, a lift done awkwardly, a fall on an icy driveway, or joints and discs that have quietly stiffened over the years. A tightened muscle, an irritated joint and a nerve under pressure all read as "my back hurts", and they do not respond to the same care, so Dr. Jessica Coleman or Dr. Moriah Severance spends the first visit working out which one you have. You hear what we found and why before anything is treated. Care here is non-invasive and drug-free, and the plan is built around your back rather than a standard protocol.
- A history and hands-on exam that separates joint, muscle and nerve as the source
- Gentle adjustments to the segments of your low back and pelvis that have stopped moving
- Soft tissue manipulation and trigger point therapy for the muscles that have braced around the area
- Mechanical traction and a short home exercise set when disc pressure is part of the picture
Our Approach
Assessment
Working out what is actually generating the pain before a hand goes anywhere near your back
Adjustments
Controlled, gentle movement given back to the joints that have locked down
Rehabilitation
A few exercises you can genuinely keep up at home so the progress holds between visits
Prevention
Practical changes to how you sit, lift and sleep, aimed at the next episode as much as this one

Common Questions
Is the pain down my leg coming from my low back?
It often is. Pain, pins and needles or weakness that travels into the buttock, thigh or calf usually means a nerve root in the lower spine is being irritated or compressed rather than anything being wrong with the leg itself. Your doctor tests the nerve, checks how the joints above it are moving and tells you what the pattern points to. Where chiropractic care is appropriate for it, that is what we treat; where it is not, we will say so and help you find the right person.
How many visits before I know whether this is working?
We reassess as we go rather than selling you a block of visits up front. A back that seized up last week usually answers sooner than one that has been sore for years, and your doctor will tell you at the review point what has changed and what she expects next. If your back is not responding the way it should, you will hear that too.
Will I need an X-ray of my low back?
Most people do not. Imaging is ordered only when the answer would change how you are cared for, and that is a judgement your doctor makes from your history and exam on the day. If she does want a picture, she explains what she is looking for first, and our page on x-ray imaging covers how that works at our office.
When is the Holt office open for back pain visits?
Our treating days are Monday and Wednesday, 9am to 6pm, Thursday, 2pm to 6pm, and Friday, 9am to 3pm. Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday we are closed. Booking online runs around the clock, or you can reach us on (517) 699-2646 during those hours. The office is at 4573 E Willoughby Rd, Suite B, and patients drive in from Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, Dewitt, Mason, Eaton Rapids, Grand Ledge, Charlotte and Dimondale as well as Holt.
My back started hurting after a car accident. Same thing?
The examination follows the same lines, but a collision loads the spine differently and the stiffness often shows up days later, so tell us about the crash even if it seemed minor at the time. Our page on auto accident injuries explains what those visits involve, and the documentation side of it is handled as part of your care.

Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. Chiropractic care is safe when performed by licensed professionals like our team in Holt, Michigan. Side effects are rare and mild, typically slight soreness that fades quickly, and years of training mean every adjustment is precise and effective.
From our FAQs:
Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
No. We use precise, gentle force to realign your spine or joints, which relieves nerve pressure, reduces inflammation, and improves mobility. That pop you might hear is just gas collapsing in the joint, and it is perfectly normal.
From our FAQs:
How many visits will I need?
Every patient is unique, so the answer depends on you. After your adjustment we create a personalized plan that may include follow-up visits, corrective exercises, and complementary therapies like massage or stretching.
From our FAQs:
What conditions do chiropractors treat?
We address a wide range of issues, including back pain, neck pain, sciatica, headaches and migraines, and sports injuries. Neck pain is often tied to poor posture or whiplash injuries, and sciatica is radiating leg pain from nerve compression. Whatever brings you in, our chiropractors are here to help.
From our FAQs:
What happens at my first visit?
Your first visit starts with an initial consultation, where you share your health goals and symptoms with us. Next is a physical exam, where we assess your posture, spine, and range of motion. Then comes your first adjustment. Finally we outline a care plan, a roadmap for your recovery and wellness.
From our FAQs:
Do you need a referral to see a chiropractor?
Most insurance plans do not require a referral. Some plan types do. Call (517) 699-2646 before your visit and we will check your specific plan for you.
